Why Color Orange?

After the World Health Organization declared violence against women a "global epidemic" in 2014, United Nations Women launched a 16-day activism campaign against violence against women. During the campaign, orange-themed activities representing a world free of violence against women are organized every year under the slogan "Paint the World Orange" in order to draw attention to not remaining indifferent and making a voice against violence. Individuals and institutions that use the color orange, which symbolizes light and hope, during the campaign support awareness raising efforts against violence against women.
